‘Sense of Worth’, co-curated by Amy Foster and Fearn Hepden, explored significance and meaning associated with the industrial ceramic history in the city of Stoke-on-Trent.
The artists responded to the overt value and pride in the city evident in the conversations and information that were exchanged during time spent at the residency location.
Winkhill Mill, Stoke was regarded as a ‘living museum’ of production, where tiles are still made, and sentiments shared. The artists saw an opportunity to combine contemporary art languages with these conversations; similar values are shared in the individual experience and stories surrounding works of art.
An overlap in the emotional investment in objects and memories was unpicked for the content of the exhibition. These findings were then revealed to the public through artworks and conversations over the course of the show weekend.
